Herbal plants are known for their curative properties. They are sold in many forms such as tablets, capsules, teas, powders, and the like. People intake these herbs to improve their overall health conditions. Here we will discuss a few medicinal plants that have been backed by scientific evidence. Some of them are:
Gingko - Gingko Biloba is one of the longest living ancient herbs in the world. This herbal medicine is the powerhouse of antioxidants. It contains high levels of terpenoids and flavonoids known to possess strong antioxidant effects. Gingko seeds were used in traditional Chinese medicine to increase the potential of blood circulation to different organs including the liver, kidneys, brain, and lungs. However, this herb could lead to serious health problems if you’re having certain medications.
Turmeric - Popularly known as the Indian saffron, this antiviral herb is native to Southeast Asia. In the Eastern Asian medical systems, turmeric was used to treat disorders of the skin, digestive system, upper respiratory tracts, and joints. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), one tablespoon (tbsp) of turmeric powder comprises 0.91 grams (g) of protein, 29 calories, 6.31 g of carbohydrates, 0.31 g of fat, 2.1 g of fiber, and 0.3 g of sugar. Curcumin, an active ingredient of turmeric owns the qualities to fight infections and viruses. Recent studies have shown it has the potential to qualify as a possible herbal formulation for corona.
Evening primrose oil - This North American native herb is generally used to aid bruises, digestive problems, hemorrhoids, and sore throats. Evening primrose oil is effective in curing premenstrual syndrome (PMS), osteoporosis, scleroderma, and Raynaud’s phenomenon. Additionally, it is also used to ease other medical conditions like asthma, high cholesterol, hepatitis B, liver cancer, breast pain, psoriasis, and obesity. Though these conditions lack scientific evidence. However, primrose oil should not be consumed because of the increased seizure risk within two weeks before going for a general anesthetic.
Echinacea - These herbs are commonly known as coneflowers. There are nine different types of echinacea out of which, three of them are used for herbal medications. Coneflowers are used to treat a wide range of illnesses like coughs and colds, yeast infections, bronchitis, gingivitis, canker sores, influenza, vaginitis, AIDS, HIV, and some inflammatory conditions. Supporters of echinacea believe it also upgrades the immunity system but lacks research to hold up their statement.
